What Can I Do to Fight Climate Change?

It's happening right now.

But I'm not just talking about climate change.  I'm talking about SOLUTIONS to fight climate change!

Right now, I'm excited!  But over the past couple of years, I was secretly anxious.  This underlying anxiety was there all the time and was getting worse.

Up until a few months ago, whenever I began to think about all that has to happen to reverse the rising carbon dioxide in our air, I just felt SOOOO overwhelmed.

Big cars, trucks and SUV's spewing CO2 everywhere, factories all over the world every day making millions of plastic things for us to buy, planes, cows, overpopulation, climate change deniers, indifferent politicians, failing recycling programs, a lack of international cooperation, rampant misinformation about irrefutable climate science, and a recent NY Times article The World Still Isn’t Meeting Its Climate Goals.
And I thought "Are we totally screwed?"

But I didn't really talk about it.  I began to notice that my friends also talked very little about climate change.  And that's because it churns up feelings of fear - anxiety - and an immobilizing hopelessness.

It sucks to feel this way.  It's so much easier to NOT talk about it - because who wants to feel those things?

But recently, a friend of mine DID want to talk about it.  To my surprise, she enthusiastically started telling me about all the amazing things that are going on in this country - and all over the world.

-The demand for electric cars is increasing so fast that US car makers are spending billions on electric car development.

-Wind farms and Solar Panel Farms are quickly becoming major sources of energy.

-Renewable Electricity is now LESS expensive than the use of coal and other fossil fuels.

-While our national government is reacting slowly, state and local governments are making huge strides in fighting climate change.  For example, California set a groundbreaking new goal of 100 percent carbon-free electricity!

-Many major US Cities have declared a "Climate Emergency" and are taking rapid steps to make a difference.

-Some US cities are buying fleets of electric buses to replace CO2-spewing public transportation.

-Quebec, Ontario, Alberta, and B.C. have led in recent economic growth while TAXING carbon polluters.  These provinces are not stalling their economies by punishing carbon emitters.  They are thriving BECAUSE they have implemented green strategies and solutions.  Cities and states around the world are beginning to copy Canada's success.

-At present, 197 countries have adopted the Paris Agreement (to limit global temperature rise by reducing greenhouse gas emissions). Of those, 179 have solidified their climate proposals with formal approval.

-The vast majority of Americans support the Paris Agreement in spite of climate deniers.

-The Sunrise Movement in the US has organized tens of thousands of young people to bring attention to our climate crisis.

-And led by youth activist Greta Thunberg, MILLIONS of people have participated in climate strikes around the world.

-The European Union has set aggressive goals to meet by the year 2030: At least 40% cuts in greenhouse gas emissions, at least 32% share for renewable energy, at least 32.5% improvement in energy efficiency, a binding target to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the EU by at least 40%, and a binding renewable energy target for the EU for 2030 of at least 32% of final energy consumption.

-Scientists are doing amazing work - developing microbes that "eat" plastic, developing plants that remove carbon from the atmosphere, ways to restructure agriculture to emit less greenhouse gases, and more.

When I learned about the great progress being made, I immediately felt hopeful! And since that conversation with my friend, I've learned that there are thousands of small steps that countries, cities, communities and individuals are taking to make a difference.

So, even though the world is not yet meeting it's climate goals...

A Revolution has started!

I was so excited!  I went home and started thinking about all of this.  For the first time in a couple of years, I wasn't focused on my anxiety about climate change.  Instead, I felt positive about the future, and motivated to be part of the solution.

So then I started talking with my friends and my family about it.  Everything about it - my fears, my anxiety, and all the reasons why I never really wanted to talk about it before.

And you know what?  They feel EXACTLY the same way.

I began sharing all the good news about the progress being made in the battle to fight climate change.  The more we talked, my friends became just as excited and hopeful as I've become.

"Wow." I thought.  "Fear and anxiety can turn into hope - just by talking about it."

Suddenly, we were listing all the small things we could be doing more of - recycling, using less gasoline, cutting back on electricity, eating less meat, using less plastic, cutting back on water use, etc.  Although these things seemed small to us before, we were all excited about trying to do better.

Over the next couple of weeks, the more I talked with friends about climate change, the more empowered we all began to feel.  And then a crazy idea occurred to us.

What if we started a little company to help people feel hopeful about battling climate change?

What if this little company shared the small steps that anyone can take to make a difference?

And what if we could help hundreds of people take these small steps?  And what if we could eventually help thousands take small steps.  And those thousands helped other people take small steps?

So, four of my friends and I have started a new company called "Luv Earth."  (www.luv.earth)

* Our main goal is to help as many people as possible get started in the climate change fight by simply taking a small step.  And then another step.  And then another.

1 small step + more small steps x lots of people = a Giant Leap

So what are some of these small steps?

You'll also receive links to our educational websites as well as other climate related websites so you can fully understand the facts of climate change and how to reverse it.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of deceiving information out there that tries to cast doubt on the irrefutable scientific FACTS regarding climate change.  Much of this misinformation is being spread by big oil companies.  Yikes!

So, if you take the Luv Earth 1st Step, and begin taking more small steps...

Will this really make any difference in the world?

"You are never too small to make difference" -Greta Thunberg

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” -Mahatma Gandhi

"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." -Helen Keller

"Change your thoughts and you change your world." -Norman Vincent Peale

History has shown us that each person's thoughts matter.  As we share these thoughts and give them purpose, they can grow to become a social movement.  A powerful social movement creates awareness and demands change in the world.  A recent example is the #MeToo movement.  A social movement can also inspire political change. Past social movements won us the the Civil Rights Act, and the Environmental Protection Agency!

At Luv Earth, we believe that small steps lead to bigger steps.  Bigger steps lead to more awareness.  More awareness contributes to Social Movements.  Social Movements lead to political change.  Political change leads to Industry Change and large scale adaptation measures.

Hey, all this sounds great, but what comes in the Luv Earth Sample box?

LOL !!  Yes, I can get carried away by my newly-found enthusiasm toward the developing SOLUTIONS to the climate crisis.

So, let's talk about what you'll receive by taking the Luv Earth 1st Step, which is ordering our Luv Earth sample box.

My friends and I talked a lot about what type of "green" products could encourage ongoing conversations about climate change.  So we decided to offer products that are commonly used in our daily lives - BUT WITHOUT THE PLASTIC.

For example, did you know?...

-Each and every plastic shampoo bottle takes 450 to 1,000 YEARS to decompose in a landfill.

-1.6 MILLION barrels of oil are used every year to make plastic bottles.

-For every 1 ounce of plastic manufactured, 5 ounces of CO2-equivalent greenhouse gases (GHG) are emitted into our atmosphere.  Over the past 40 years, global plastics production has quadrupled. If this trend continues, the GHG emissions from plastics will reach 15% of the global carbon budget by 2050.

-The GHG from annual plastics manufacturing has an estimated equivalent to the annual emissions of 19 million to 95 million vehicles.

-Currently, 90.5% of plastic goes un-recycled worldwide.  Plus, recycling of plastic requires "melting" of the plastic - which spews additional GHG into the atmosphere.  Although recycling is better than putting our plastic trash in landfills, it's best to eliminate as much plastic use as we possibly can from our daily lives.

Our Luv Earth lifestyle products do NOT come in plastic bottles and include:

- Shampoo Bars instead of shampoo in a plastic bottle
- Hair Conditioner Bars instead of conditioner in a plastic bottle
- Face Cleansing Bars instead of face cleansers in a plastic bottle or jar
- Body Wash Bars instead of body wash in a plastic bottle
- Dishwashing Bar (instead of liquid dishwashing liquid that comes in a plastic bottle)
- and more products that fight climate change

But, are they any good?

Yes!  They're great!  We have spent over a year formulating our products to perform as well as high-end personal care products - but without the plastic and for a lower cost!  Our kitchen products will also save you money.  Plus, our soap products are handmade.

*If you don't "luv" them, just ask for a no-questions-asked refund.

And most importantly, you'll receive our Luv Earth Newsletter to keep you informed about everything you'll need to know so we can fight climate change together!

How we spend our money matters!

"Before I took my first steps, I felt small and powerless.  Now I know for sure that together, we can heal the planet."
